Police arrested a man whose car crashed into an electrical pole Tuesday night, injuring his two young children.
Officers said the crash happened at 10:15 p.m. at 36th Street North and Hartford. Police say two young children were in the car.
Police say Gable Richardson, 30, was northbound on Hartford in the southbound lanes when his car hit the pole, knocking out power to the neighborhood. Police say two children in the car, a seven-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy, were injured. EMSA took them to the hospital.
Police said no one in the car was wearing a seat belt and the boy hit his head on the front windshield.
"One of the kids had a slight abrasion, cut to his forehead where he had smashed into the windshield of the vehicle. The young girl who was seven just got thrown around the car," said Tulsa Police Cpl. Dan Miller.
Police said both children got out of the car and ran to another driver who stopped to help. They said that driver took care of the children until police and firefighters arrived.
Witnesses told officers Richardson got out of the car and sat down in a nearby parking lot.
Police said Richardson was so drunk they couldn’t finish a field sobriety test and he didn’t remember being in the crash.
Police booked Gable Richardson into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of DUI, child endangerment, driving left of center and driving under suspension. Jail records show he is being held in lieu of $55,900 bond with a court appearance set for August 6, 2014.
PSO had to replace the damaged pole and restore power to the area within an hour.
