Former Creek Nation Court Justice Nominated To Chair National Indian Gaming Commission

President Barack Obama has nominated a member of the Creek Nation to serve as chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission.

President Barack Obama has nominated a member of the Creek Nation to serve as chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission.

Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri is currently Vice Chairman and Associate Commissioner of the commission and has served as acting chair since September 2013.

Prior to joining the NIGC, Chaudhuri was an Appellate Judge on the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Supreme Court from 2006 to 2012.

Chaudhuri received a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from Cornell Law School.

The National Indian Gaming Commission is responsible for the regulation of Indian gaming.

Chaudhuri will be required to go before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee for his confirmation hearing.
