OHP: Spavinaw Teen Killed In Alcohol-Related Crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 16-year-old was driving under the influence of alcohol when his car crashed in Mayes County killing a 15-year-old male passenger early Thursday.

Troopers said the crash occurred on a county road about three miles west of Spavinaw at 1:13 a.m.

The OHP says a medical helicopter flew the teenage driver, who is from Spavinaw, to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with head and internal injuries.

One of three passengers in the 2007 Nissan Maxima was pronounced dead the scene due to massive injuries, troopers said.

Two other passengers, also from Spavinaw, were taken to a Tulsa hospital. Troopers said one of them, a 15-year-old male, suffered internal and head injuries. The other passenger, identified as Jack Jackson, 19, was transported by medical helicopter in critical condition with a head injury.

The OHP says the car was headed west when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the left side of the road, slid back across the road and hit trees. The car then rolled over coming to rest on its side.

The OHP said the driver was wearing his seat belt, but it was unknown if any of the passengers were using their seat belts.

The OHP did not release the names of the juveniles.
