OHP: Monday Was A Deadly Day On Roads Across The State

In a span of about 12 hours Monday, eight people died in crashes across the state according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The first fatality occurred at 7:28 a.m. in Haskell County. Troopers said a 2009 Chevy HHR driven by a 14-year-old girl from Keota crashed on a county road. Their reports states the juvenile was speeding when her vehicle lost control, went off the road and struck a tree. The OHP says she was not wearing a seat belt.

The OHP investigated a fatal crash east of Idabel in McCurtain County that happened at 11:30 a.m. Troopers said the driver, Jonny Collum, 24, of Broken Bow and two passengers -- Devin Chesney, 12, of Idabel and Kenneth Gann, 24, of Heavener -- were killed. Two other passengers were flown to hospitals in Texas and Arkansas. The OHP says no one in that crash was wearing a seat belt.

The EagleMed helicopter taking one of the crash victims to the Texas hospital lost power and made an emergency landing in a Texas soybean field.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says nobody was hurt in the landing near Leary, just west of Texarkana. The chopper suffered substantial damage in the landing.  An ambulance transported the crash victim on to the hospital.

The FAA is investigating.

A Yale man died in a Payne County crash at 1:23 p.m. Troopers said Leslie Frank Bryant, 22, was westbound on Highway 51 when his 1992 Toyota Camry went left of center and struck a semi driven by Lyndall Williams, 56, of Oklahoma City. Williams was not hurt.

At 2:58 p.m. troopers investigated a fatal crash in Custer County. The OHP says 16-year-old Treveious Robinson of Clinton was speeding while westbound on I-40 when he lost control of his motorcycle. The bike rolled multiple times throwing the teen off the bike, according to troopers, who say he was wearing a safety helmet.

At 6:49 p.m. a westbound motorcycle struck the rear of a semi on I-40 in Sequoyah County. The OHP says the rider was from Pelham, Alabama and died in the crash. The driver of the semi, Dung Nguyen, 45, from California, was not injured. Troopers are still investigating the cause of that crash.

And at 7:15 p.m. a three-vehicle crash in Woodward County on Highway 183 north of Fort Supply killed one driver. Troopers said a southbound semi driven by Russell Fisk of Desloge, Missouri went left of center and struck a GMC Yukon driven by Ilomae Beck, 85, of Buffalo. The Yukon bounced off a guardrail and struck a southbound 2003 Ford truck which rolled over and went off the road, according to the OHP.

Ilomae Beck died en route to the hospital. Her passenger, 88-year-old Glen Beck, also of Buffalo,  was taken a Woodward hospital. The driver of the Ford truck -- Charles Hurley, 26, of Sayre -- was also taken to a Woodward hospital.

The OHP report says Fisk was sleepy just before the crash.
