Tulsa Police have made an arrest after a man was shot in the face outside an East Tulsa party venue near 23rd and Garnett early Sunday. Police had reports of a fight and shots fired then heard several more gunshots as they responded to the scene.
Authorities say they arrived at the Krystal Palace event center parking lot shortly after midnight.
"We were having gunshots going off all around us," said Corporal Kevin Warne.
Police learned an adult male had been shot in the face and transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle. The man is believed to be in critical condition, according to police.
Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker issued a news bulletin later in the morning saying a man picked up near the event center has been taken into custody in the shooting.
William White was one of several people pulled over in what Walker describes as a suspicious car. The car was leaving the scene, and a small caliber handgun was found inside.
"There was enough evidence to arrest the driver of the car stopped at 2600 South Garnett," Walker said.
"Tulsa Police Patrol did an excellent job in stopping the shooting suspect amongst all the chaos at the scene. It has been reported that the victim will survive his injuries," Walker said.
White, 21, will be booked into Tulsa County Jail on complaints of shooting with intent to kill, shooting from a vehicle, possession of stolen property (the gun), and a traffic warrant. Bond will be set at $103,438.
Court records show that he received a deferred sentence for possession of stolen property in 2012.
