OSU Students Hope 'Flying, Rolling Orb' Will Help In Emergency Situations

A group of Oklahoma students are getting national attention for a project they're working on.

Students at OSU in Stillwater are hoping new technology will help respond to emergencies in a whole new way using un-manned drones.

Engineering students have built what they call an Un-manned Flying and Rolling Orb or U-FRO. The orb can be loaded up with technology, including cameras, microphones and GPS, and it rolls.

"If someone is on the ground you can roll to the person without worrying about a propeller hitting you. You can then talk to them using video or microphone, ‘what's your name, what's going on?' You can roll away from the person and take off again," said U-FRO Design Engineer, Ben Loh.

The inspiration for the new technology came from tragedy after the Murrah Building Bombing.
