The game might not count in the win-loss column, but Friday's exhibition opener could still serve as a confidence builder for the Tulsa Shock.
With five players sitting out of the contest, including Riquna Williams and first-round pick Odyssey Sims, the Shock demolished San Antonio 82-59 behind a standout performance from second-year guard Skylar Diggins.
Diggins led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting, connected on 2-of-3 from 3-point range and dished out eight assists to lead the way in a well-rounded showing for the Shock.
Roneeka Hodges added 18 point on 7-of-13 shooting and former OU standout Courtney Paris dominated in the paint with 10 points and a whopping 14 rebounds.
Tulsa shot 44.6 overall and was 18-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Shock also outrebounded the Stars 40-30 and had a 16-9 edge in assists.
San Antonio was led by Davellyn Whyte and Jia Perkins, who had nine points each. The Stars shot 31.1 percent as a team.
The Shock outscored San Antonio in every quarter, highlighted by a decisive 18-9 margin in the first.
The two teams square off again in Tuesday in San Antonio at 10:30 a.m. in preseason action.
Tulsa's official season opener is also against the Stars and is scheduled for May 17 on the road.
