Dozens of Oklahoma veterans left on the trip of a lifetime Wednesday morning. Oklahoma Honor Flights flew them to the nation's capital as a way to thank them for their service to our country.

And for the first time, Korean War veterans were invited along.

One by one, dozens of veterans got off the bus to a patriotic farewell.

World War Two veteran, George Thon, said, "I'm feeling pretty good right now."

On Wednesday, about 100 veterans headed to the nation's capital, thanks to an organization called Oklahoma Honor Flights.

It's the experience of a lifetime for Veteran Lehman Gaither, one of the 16 Korean War veterans on the trip.

"I always wanted to go and see the Korean War Memorial, especially with all the rest of them," Gaither said.

Thanks to donations, Honor Flights has sent more than 1,400 of our nation's heroes to Washington D.C. since 2010.

For veterans like 100-year-old World War Two veteran Ralph Weeks, this trip is free.

"I'm amazed at the amount of effort they've put into this," Weeks said.

Once the group arrived in Washington D.C., they spent the day touring several memorials, such as the World War Two and Korean War memorials. They also visited the Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Dorothy Smith, with the Women's Army Corp, said, "I think it's fantastic."

It's a day these veterans will forever appreciate, but it's also a day for others to show appreciation to those who sacrificed so much to serve our country.

Each trip costs about $100,000. You can donate to help pay for an Honor Flight.
