The City of Owasso is asking the state Supreme Court to get involved the case of a police officer who was reinstated after being fired for using excessive force.

Mike Denton, a 17-year veteran police officer, says he was protecting himself when he struck Bryan Spradlin during a videotaped arrest in 2011. The city fired Denton, but a federal mediator ordered the termination be changed to a written reprimand.

Owasso took the case to court, and a judge ruled in the city's favor.

Denton and the Fraternal Order of Police appealed though, and earlier this month, the city was ordered to reinstate Denton.
