An Oklahoma's soldier on the homefront is being called a hero after a routine grenade training exercise almost ended in tragedy.
With less than 6 seconds to react, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant John King picked up a live grenade, tossed it over a wall and hit the ground next to his trainee.
A second later, it exploded.
King says he just reacted.
"Me exiting the pit, leaving him there, would have been probably more of an issue to me than actually not trying," he said. "Well, what if I could have gotten to the grenade? So I just went for the grenade."
King has been nominated for the Soldier's Medal.
