On Tuesday, the Tulsa Fire Department will conduct an After the Fire event starting at 4 p.m. in the 3700 block of East 83rd Street. Last Thursday that area was the scene of a fatal fire.
During the After the Fire event, according to the department, firefighters and public education officers go through the neighborhood and ask if residents have checked their smoke detectors.
If a home needs a smoke detector or battery changed, the firefighters will install either one.
The event is meant to bring awareness to the importance of working smoke detectors in a home, officials said. They say smoke detectors give valuable seconds needed to escape a house fire.
