Tulsa Homeless Shelters Near Capacity In Record Cold

Troy Jones was planning on spending the night walking the cold Tulsa streets until he was picked up by the John 3:16 Mission.

Area shelters are almost at capacity Monday night because of the extreme cold temperatures. Shelters like the John 3:16 Mission are planning on having people stay in their lobby to keep warm.

Troy Jones was planning on spending the night walking the cold Tulsa streets until he was picked up by the Mission.

"Honestly I can barely feel half my body right now. It's bad," Jones said.

The John 3:16 Mission has over a 100 beds for people to stay warm.

The National Weather Service says Tulsa set a new record low temperature for January 6th. The temperature fell to -2 at 7:14 a.m.  The previous record of 0 degrees was set in 1912.
