Group To Protest Execution Of Tulsa Man Convicted In QuikTrip Killing

An Oklahoma anti-death penalty group is asking the public to join in a protest and vigil next week outside the governor's mansion in Oklahoma City on the day of the state's next scheduled execution.

The Oklahoma Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty will hold a "Don't Kill For Me" protest on January 9, the day 38-year-old Michael Wilson is scheduled to die by lethal injection at the state Penitentiary in McAlester.

Wilson was sentenced to death for the 1995 beating death of Richard Yost, the night manager of a QuikTrip at 215 North Garnett in Tulsa.

Last month, the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board rejected clemency for Wilson.

The protest will become a silent vigil beginning at 6 p.m., when the execution is to begin.

Two co-defendants, Darwin Brown and Billy Alverson, have been executed for the crime. Brown was executed in 2009 and Alverson in 2011. A fourth man, Richard Harjo, was sentenced to life in prison.
