Tulsa Police took two people including a convicted felon into custody following a police chase early Sunday. The chase ended when the fleeing driver nearly flipped his Jeep by some railroad tracks at 12th Street and Lewis Avenue.
Randall Holman was arrested on drug possession, eluding and resisting arrest complaints, after former conviction of a felony.
Officers say they got a call about a possible car stripping in progress at a used car lot at about 2 a.m. in the area of Haskell and Lewis. The suspects in that incident ran off, but while responding, officers saw a Jeep Cherokee they thought might be involved and attempted to pull it over.
The driver refused to stop, and police pursued the Jeep through some neighborhoods before it went down a gravel road running alongside some railroad tracks.
Sergeant Steve Stoltz called it a "slow speed" pursuit of 40 to 50 m.p.h. Police believe someone threw out some contraband from the car during the pursuit.
"They made it about a few hundred yards and then the vehicle lost traction and went off into a drainage ditch just off to the side of the tracks," Stoltz said.
The Jeep came to a stop on an angle near the tracks.
Police found drugs on the male driver and took a female passenger into custody for questioning as well.
