A drop in a bucket turned out to be a whole lot more for the Tulsa-area Salvation Army.

An anonymous donor dropped a folded $2 bill into the Salvation Army kettle outside Dillard's at Promenade Mall. Wrapped up inside it was a one-ounce gold Krugerrand valued at $1,300.

The Salvation Army said this Christmas surprise will help them make up for lost time.

"Because of ice and snow, we lost a day and a half of bell ringing because we couldn't get out, and if people weren't shopping, there was no money to go in the kettles," said Major Jim Taylor, of the Salvation Army.

The organization hopes to raise $675,000 dollars from its kettle campaign and is still less than halfway to the goal.

It is also needing more people to adopt angels from the Salvation Army Angel Trees. With just two days remaining, there are still 240 angels to be adopted at Woodland Hills Mall, which the organization says means 240 area kids without a Christmas. Friday is the last day to adopt, and for those who have already adopted an angel, all gifts need to be returned to the mall no later than Saturday at 9 p.m.
