One of Oklahoma's Own watched her son accept a Nobel Prize Tuesday.

Dr. James Rothman was one of three scientists to receive the Nobel Prize in medicine for their research of human cells. The ceremony was in Stockholm, Sweden, but his mom watched it here in Tulsa, at the Southern Hills Marriott, through a live streaming video feed.

Gloria Rothman said her son has been interested in science since he was a boy.

"I guess he made a great contribution. And I'm proud, and everyone's happy for him," she said.

Dr. Rothman is a professor at Yale University.

His mother lives in a Tulsa retirement community.
