A 12-year-old Wagoner boy was killed by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol Friday night. Chief of Police Bob Haley said the boy was riding home with his brother when he was hit by an SUV.

Haley said the two brothers were northbound on North Story Avenue near N.E. Ninth Street just before 11 p.m. Billy Lord, 12, was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Richard Roth of Wagoner.

Roth left the scene but later returned, Haley said.

The other brother was not injured.

Haley said Roth, 34, was booked on anticipated charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Any other charges will await the results of a blood test, but police do have reason to suspect alcohol is a factor, he said.

"We've been dealing with the school, keeping them on top of things so they can make their preparations for school Monday," Chief Haley said.
