Specialist Dylan Johnson was just 20 years old when he was killed in Iraq by an IED.
That was back in June 2011. Thursday, on what would have been Johnson's 23rd birthday, the state honored his service and sacrifice by naming the bridge over Polecat Creek on Highway 75 after him.
Johnson's family was there for the dedication. His father told us he's touched by the honor, but wants the "Specialist Dylan Johnson Memorial Bridge" to serve as a reminder for something else, as well.
"When his friends drive by and family, I'd like them to think of not only him, but Sergeant Russell Proctor, who was also killed on that day and all the other lost and fallen soldiers we've had in Oklahoma," Jeff Johnson said.
Dylan Johnson grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Jenks High School. He received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
