Wednesday Morning Update

We continue to see a few showers this morning on the radar scope across part of the state.  Most of the showers and thunderstorms will reside across southern sections this morning but a few isolated showers and storms may be possible across northern Oklahoma later.  Daytime highs will move into the upper 80s to lower 90s today with south Winds near 10 to 15 miles per hour.  A strong cold front will arrive Thursday night into Friday morning bringing another round of rain and storms followed by cooler air. 

 Most of the showers will be shunted toward eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas later this afternoon.  Afternoon temperatures both today and tomorrow will be above the seasonal average. Computer model suggestions indicate lower 90's today and possibly mid 90's tomorrow afternoon.    A southwesterly component to the wind tomorrow will also aid in warming temperatures.  

 A strong upper level system will be moving across the northern and central U.S. over the next 24 to 36 hours.  A surface cold front will enter Northwestern Oklahoma later this evening and move across northern Oklahoma and South eastern Kansas by early Friday morning.  Showers and thunderstorms seem a high probability with this system.  We'll keep a slight pop for the Thursday late period and a high pop for the Friday morning to midday time period for northern OK.  

 Depending upon the timing of the Friday system, our daytime highs could actually stay in the upper 70's.  We'll keep a high temperature Friday at 81 degrees with north winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour.  Most of the rain and thunderstorm activity will be exiting the northern Oklahoma area by midday Friday, but some activity may linger across the southern third of the state through early Friday evening.  This means there will be a small threat of rain for some Friday night football games across far southeastern Oklahoma.  As it stands now, football games in northeastern Oklahoma Friday night will encounter wet field conditions, but should see no falling precipitation.   

 Saturday the cold front should be located south of the state keeping both Saturday and Sunday precipitation free. Drier air in the lower levels will allow morning lows to drop into the mid or upper 50's.  Afternoon highs should stay in the lower 80's both days.  There will be a few locations Saturday afternoon remaining in the upper 70s for highs across extreme NE OK and SE Kansas. 

A strong upper level trough will brush the state Monday morning, but most of the impact of this system will reside north of our immediate area. 

 Extended data support another Western trough system developing by late next week.  This means increasing rainstorm chances by this time next week. 

Tropics:  We're watching an area of disturbed weather nearing the southwestern Gulf of Mexico that could become the next tropical system. 

 The official high temperature in Tulsa yesterday was 82 recorded at 5:29 pm. 

 Rainfall from Tulsa international yesterday was 0.05 which brings our monthly total to 0.10 inches.  

 Precipitation for the year now stands at 23.48 inches which is -6.41 below  29.89"  which is considered normal to date.
