Friday Morning Update

The cold front has moved southward this morning and will bring some mild temperatures to the state today.  A few showers or storms may be possible across the far southern third of the state for the next few hours, and there could be a few showers or storms later today along the Red River Valley.  The highs this afternoon across northern OK should remain near 85 with northeast winds around 10 to 15 mph.  Morning clouds will slowly decrease later today with some partial sun.

The pattern this weekend looks good for most locations and for most of the weekend.  Dry air will move across the upper Midwest and into the Missouri Valley later this afternoon and set the stage for a nice Friday evening.  Dew point temperatures in the 50s by Saturday morning across the northeastern third of the state will allow morning lows in the upper 50s.  Saturday afternoon highs could stay in the lower 80s, but we'll keep the high in the mid 80s with partly to mostly sunny conditions and northeast winds around 15 mph. 

A few showers or storms may be possible Saturday across the far western part of the state but the probability across eastern OK remains very low, if not zero.  Sunday night into Monday low level moisture will return across the region as southeast winds return.  During the day Sunday, a surface boundary may approach portions of southern Kansas and northern OK giving us a chance of a few thunderstorms.  The probability will remain low for NE OK but slightly higher to our west and northwest.  EURO and GFS data have been very inconsistent with this feature regarding run to run consistency in the data but this morning's NAM runs clearly bring the boundary into our area.  We'll keep only a slight chance of showers or storms in the forecast for Sunday evening into Monday with temperatures near or slightly above the seasonal average through Wednesday.   These probabilities are currently around 20% but could come up.  Stay tuned.

The disturbance in the southwestern Gulf has developed into a depression and should become a named system (Ingrid) later today or tonight.  The main impact appears to stay well southwest of our area, but tropical systems are extremely hard to forecast.  Some of the data suggest the moisture associated with this system may be streaming into our area by the middle to end of next week. 

The official high in Tulsa yesterday was 96 at 2:26pm.  The normal high is now 85 and the low is 63.  Daily records include a high of 103 from 1965 and a low of 49 from 1960.  

No precipitation occurred at Tulsa International Airport yesterday, but some spotty showers and storms were noted in a few locations across northeastern and southern OK. 

Friday Night Football:

Games will begin around 79 degrees and finish in the lower 70s with light winds. 

Saturday college game day forecasts:

Tulsa at OU starts at 11am in Norman with a temp near 76 and finishes in the mid-80s.

Lamar at OSU starts at 6: 30pm in Stillwater at 79 and finishes with temps in the lower 70s.
