A woman used her 8-year-old daughter as a human shield when police tried to arrest her, according to police.
According to a police report, 26-year-old Elizabeth Cox was drunk at the Canyon Creek Apartments on Saturday.
Neighbors reported she was driving around the complex with children in the vehicle, and other reported that she caused a disturbance and assaulted people.
When they tried to arrest her for public intoxication, she forced her daughter between her and officers to prevent them from taking her into custody, the report says.
There was a strong odor of alcohol on her and her speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot and she was unsteady on her feet, the report says.
The officer wrote that he had to physically place Cox in the patrol car because she refused to get in, then he had to stop the car later to address her verbal assaults. At that time, Cox unbuckled her seat belt and intentionally kicked the officer in the leg, he said.
Cox had eight outstanding warrants and faces several new charges, including assault and battery on a police officer.
