Tulsa's St. John hospital is being awarded for how it handles stroke patients and their care.
The hospital's Heyman Stroke Center is now certified as a comprehensive stroke center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association.
That's considered the gold standard of approval for stroke care.
It certifies the stroke center has state of the art equipment, advanced training for staff, and therapy available around the clock.
"So it doesn't matter if you come Monday morning or Saturday at 2 o'clock in the morning, we're available to treat those complex stroke patients," said Dr. Anna Wanahita.
The St. John Stroke Center is the only certified comprehensive stroke center in eastern Oklahoma.
