A Broken Arrow woman accused of child abuse by Munchausen Syndrome by proxy will stand trial. A Tulsa County judge made that ruling Thursday.
Prosecutors say Victoria Lee, 38, needlessly put her daughter through multiple medical procedures that were not necessary. According to court documents, the girl underwent six MRIs, each of which required anesthesia, a spinal tap, EKGs, CT scans, bladder studies and physical therapy sessions.
"Any of those procedures would be painful to any adult," said Assistant District Attorney Sarah McAmis. "You put that in the mind of a child, who has no control over his or her situation, and no ability to get him or herself out of that situation, and it's really just horrifying and really just sad to know what these kids experience."
Prosecutors say there are additional procedures that aren't listed in the court documents.
Lee will appear in court next on August 12, 2013.
