A Tulsa woman was booked into jail after police say she left three young children alone in a hot apartment.
Yomara Alvarado, 25, was booked on three counts of child endangerment Tuesday evening.
Police say the three kids, ages 5, 4, and 2, were found alone in Alvarado's apartment in the 1000 block of East 57th Place
We spoke with the management at the apartment and they said they got a call from the tenant below the apartment where the kids were found, saying water was leaking from the ceiling.
When maintenance workers checked the apartment, they found the three kids there alone and called police.
Police say the apartment did not have air conditioning and was about 90 degrees or more inside.
According to the arrest report, the children had opened 20 or more water bottles to dump on themselves to try to stay cool. Police say there was no food within reach for the children and the apartment was not secured.
The manager at the apartment complex said the air conditioning unit in the apartment was broken, but Alvarado hadn't called them to have it fixed.
The kids were taken into protective custody at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Alvarado was arrested about two and a half hours later. It's unclear how long the three children were left unsupervised.
Alvarado's bond was set at $75,000.
