A lightning strike caused a north Owasso home to burn early Monday morning. The badly damaged home is located in the Dover Pond area on Knightsbridge Road.
Family members and other helpers are trying to salvage what they can from home which is located in a gated community.
The homeowner told News On 6 that the lightning struck his son's bedroom, but luckily the son was spending the night elsewhere that night. The father said two separate fires started, and he and a neighbor were unable to get them out.
Limestone Fire Chief Carl Smith said his crews responded to the fire just before 5 a.m. The fire spread rapidly through the home and across its cedar shingle roof.
Family members and dogs made it out of the home safely, and there were no injuries, according to the chief.
Low water pressure caused by extensive development in the Dover Pond/Stone Canyon area caused problems for firefighters, who had to request a tanker truck from the Owasso Fire Department.
Chief Smith said Rogers County Rural Water District No. 3's resources have been taxed by the explosive growth in the area, though they are in the process of upgrading the system.
The Tulsa Area Red Cross assisted the Limestone and Owasso fire departments by providing canteen services.
News On 6 has a crew at the scene and will have more information as it is confirmed.
