Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies say they tried to pull over a man with outstanding warrants near 60th and Yorktown at about 9 p.m. Saturday, when he took off in a Crown Victoria. The deputies gave pursuit, and the car finally crashed after going through a construction zone.

The suspect, identified as Melvin Louis Bailey III, then took off on foot. A Tulsa Police K-9 unit was able to track him down in a backyard and kept him there until authorities arrived.

Bailey, 20, was treated for bites then transported to the Tulsa County Jail.

He was booked on complaints of eluding police, drug possession and driving under the influence of drugs, as well as the outstanding traffic warrants.

According to an arrest report, Bailey told authorities he had just been released from a Texas prison a month ago. He had two bags of marijuana in the car and one in the pocket of his shorts.

The arresting deputy said Bailey told them he smokes "weed," takes Xanax and other drugs. He said he took two Xanax during the chase so he wouldn't get charged for having them, the report states.
