Execution Date Set For Man Convicted Of Killing Tulsa Woman 34 Years Ago

A Sept. 10 execution date has been set for an Oklahoma death row inmate convicted of killing a woman 34 years ago.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set the date Thursday for 60-year-old Anthony Rozelle Banks. Banks was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the June 6, 1979, killing of Sun "Kim" Travis.

The 24-year-old Korean national was abducted from a parking lot at her Tulsa apartment complex, raped and shot in the head.

Banks and a co-defendant, 53-year-old Allen Wayne Nelson, were charged in August 1997 when the DNA of both men was detected in evidence found on the victim's body and clothing. A Tulsa County jury convicted Nelson of first-degree murder in the case and sentenced him to life in prison.
