Many areas were faced with flash flooding Thursday, as storms drenched northeast Oklahoma. But for one couple near Sperry, the high water is a common sight.

Their yard looked more like a pond Thursday, but Kenneth and Della Crase have a sense of humor about it. They're used to this kind of thing.

"When it rains five inches, you're gonna get a flood," Kenneth said. "We just accept it and go on, that's all we can do."

From their front porch rocking chairs, the couple always sits out to watch and wait for the water to recede.

"Right out there, it's probably up to your waist," Kenneth said. "This'll all be dry by dark."

Their home is built up high enough that they say, in all their years of flooding fields, the water has never made it inside.

Next door is the family business: Crase and Son Feed Store. It stands on cinder blocks several feet off the ground, just the right height for a loading dock.

And in nearly 40 years, Kenneth says the water has only won once. Several years ago, it was flooded with about six inches of water.

His work shop is ground level, though

"Oh yeah, it's in there right now, probably two foot deep," Kenneth said.

So, before each storm, Kenneth makes sure that anything valuable is picked up and put away, including their cars.

"Usually keep them under the car port, but that wouldn't be good today, would it?" he said.

The couple said they've seen it all, so they know if the going is going to get rough.

"When the water runs over the driveway, we go out. Sometimes we go get a motel or something, but most of the time we just stay," Della said.
