Oklahoma's two U.S. senators issued statements Tuesday following tornadoes on Sunday and Monday which caused extensive damage in several Oklahoma communities.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe:

"May the Lord be with those who lost family members and friends during the tragic tornadoes that destroyed and took many lives in Oklahoma over the past two days. Oklahomans will persevere as we have done in the face of tragedy and loss in the past, but we will never forget the young school children and the countless others who lost their lives in these horrific storms. Kay and I will continue to pray for everyone in Oklahoma and throughout the Midwest who are suffering.

"This morning I spoke with Oklahoma Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood, Major General Myles Deering of the Oklahoma National Guard, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. State and Federal agencies are working together to coordinate the search and rescue efforts. The congressional delegation and I will join Governor Mary Fallin, local leaders, and FEMA officials this afternoon to ensure that resources are best used to help all those in need."

U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D.:

"Oklahomans have always inspired the nation with their courage, compassion and resilience in the face of unspeakable tragedy and loss. That has already been the case in the few hours since these terrible tornadoes destroyed major parts of our communities, and will be the case as neighbors care for those who have lost everything, including children and family members.

"I spoke with Department of Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano last night about FEMA's response. We still don't know the scope of devastation and won't for some time. But, as the ranking member of Senate committee that oversees FEMA, I can assure Oklahomans that any and all available aid will be delivered without delay.

"Our office has been encouraged by the outpouring of support and offers for help from across the country. I've posted information on my website about how people can best help Oklahomans rebuild and recover."
