The Grand River Dam Authority says two people are dead after a ski boat crashed into an empty, docked houseboat on Grand Lake, in Duck Creek.
According to GRDA spokesman Justin Alberty, a 22-foot Cobalt bowrider boat carrying eight people collided into the empty houseboat docked at Arrowhead Yacht Club, near County Road 330 and Highway 85. The ski boat went into the houseboat
It happened at about 5:30 p.m.
Alberty says two people were taken to Craig General Hospital in Vinita, while three others refused treatment at the scene. Alberty said the two fatalities were in the front of the moving boat. We're told one of the people on the boat jumped overboard before it crashed and was not injured.
Not much is known about the victims, except that they were all in their 20s.
The parents of one of the survivors of the crash tell News On 6 the two fatalities were a man and a woman.
"We just pray for everybody that was injured or the family of the deceased. I don't know who they were and I don't know who owns the houseboat, but it was a very serious accident," said Duck Creek resident Betsy Park.
GRDA police say they were going extremely fast.
"It was a very substantial, violent impact," said Brian Edwards, of GRDA police.
GRDA had no details about the two people who were killed, as police are still notifying their families.
