Tyler Boss blasted his seventh home run of the season on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Oral Roberts University baseball team fell to McNeese State on Senior Day, 5-1.
The Golden Eagles' record drops to 21-28 overall and 14-10 in Southland Conference play. The Cowboys move to 22-27 overall and 9-15 in SLC action.
Boss' home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth was just one of five Golden Eagle hits in the game. Kevin Cho led the team with singles, Matt Brandy hit a leadoff double in the sixth and Joey Migliaccio added a single.
Taking the loss for the Golden Eagles was Tim Zufall (5-2). The senior starter allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits and struck out four Cowboys in the loss.
McNeese started the scoring in the top of the second as Cameron Toole picked up a bases loaded single to left field to score Connor Lloyd and Jackson Gooch.
In the top of the seventh, the Cowboys added their final three runs of the afternoon on just two hits. The first run of the inning came across as Lloyd was plunked by a pitch with the bases load to score Michael Sullivan. Gooch later scored on a fielder's choice by Hans Ask and Lucas Quary crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Gooch finished the afternoon with three hits and Chayse Marion added two as well.
Bryce Kingsley recorded the victory, completing eight innings and allowing just four hits.
ORU will hit the road for its final week of regular season play as the Golden Eagles visit Mississippi State on Tuesday, followed by the final conference series at Northwestern State, beginning on Thursday.
