It has taken most of the day, but the sun has finally returned, at least briefly. However, the cool start and light northerly winds have still kept temperatures well below normal for this time of year. Fair to partly cloudy skies should be the general rule for much of the night tonight, but with the light winds we may see patchy fog develop again first thing Tuesday morning. Tuesday would then see a mix of sun and clouds, but still with a warming trend. Our winds will be light and variable for the overnight hours, then light SE for much of the day Tuesday.

Stronger southerly winds will then prevail for Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the next storm system. That will result in warmer nights and days with temperatures finally at or even a bit above normal for a change. After dropping into the upper 40s to low 50s tonight, Tuesday should see afternoon highs reaching well into the 70s for the first time since early last week. Wednesday and Thursday will be even warmer with morning lows near 60 and daytime highs well into the 70s if not even some low 80s thrown in.

As mentioned, the warmer temperatures and increasing southerly winds will be in advance of the next storm system. An initial wind shift associated with the system now looks to be arriving by early Friday, but the much cooler air will not be really making its presence known till Sunday and Monday. Don't misunderstand, this system will not be nearly as cool as the one we have just experienced, but it will bring temperatures back to well below normal through early next week.

That will also bring our next decent shot of showers/storms, particularly for the Thu/Fri time frame. A few showers/storms will occur in far W OK later Tuesday which will make a run to the east but should be falling apart overnight. A better chance of showers/storms will once again affect far W OK and we will have a chance on this side of the state as well. Better chances are expected for the Thu/Fri time frame as the wind shift/weak cool front moves this way and there will be at least some support aloft. Notice the QPF map on the right which is valid through this coming Saturday evening. There is the potential for another inch or more of rain with the chances of showers/storms for later in the week.

Lingering showers and possibly some thunder into the day Saturday should be clearing out in time to leave a pretty nice Mother's Day on Sunday. It will certainly be cooler than normal, but still pleasant enough with NE winds and lots of sunshine the way things are looking right now.

So, stay tuned and check back for updates.
