Tulsa Zoo To Hold Birthday Party For Its Tallest Resident

The Tulsa Zoo is throwing a birthday party for one of its tallest residents this week.  Samburu the giraffe is turning 21 on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He is the zoo's only male giraffe.

The zoo will give Samburu some special birthday treats including strawberries, romaine lettuce and bananas.

Samburu weighs in at more than 2,500 pounds and stands 18 feet tall. The Tulsa Zoo says when Samburu was born, he was already 6 feet tall.

In 2011, Samburu was joined by two female giraffes, Lexi and Pili.  Lexi is 6 years old, and Pili is 4.  Both were brought to Tulsa in hopes of breeding with Samburu.

The Tulsa Zoo is located in Mohawk Park on the north side of Tulsa.
