3 Vehicles Collide In North Tulsa After Driver Tries To Evade Police

A man who led police on a chase was the catalyst of a three-vehicle collision in North Tulsa on Saturday, police said.

The driver of a red Mustang reportedly did not use a turn signal properly, so an officer initiated a traffic stop about 5:30 p.m. The driver sped off and was able to get away from the officer, TPD Sgt. Steve Stoltz said.

In its attempted getaway, the car reached an estimated 90 mph before it ran through a red light at the intersection of East Pine Street and North Sheridan Road, smashing into two other vehicles with green lights.

The driver of the Mustang had to be extricated by the Tulsa Fire Department, and both he and his passenger were taken to the hospital.

In all, EMSA said it transported four to hospitals. Three people -- including a 37-year-old man -- are in fair condition. A 50-year-old man is in critical condition. Information on the others -- age, gender and which vehicles they were riding in -- is unknown at this time.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents also are on the scene but declined to say why.

Stoltz said the federal agents recovered evidence from the Mustang, which may result in felony charges, but he is unsure what the evidence is.
