A Tulsa woman entered a guilty plea in district court after police say she shot her boyfriend during an argument. Jilma "Kimberly" Lara, 39, reportedly told a detective she went into a "rage" before shooting at the man three or four times.
According to court documents, Lara tried to wake her boyfriend at 3 a.m. at their home in the 11800 block of East 22nd Street on May 15, 2012.
The couple argued, and Lara grabbed a shotgun and began firing shots at her boyfriend, who is also the father of her 7-year-old son, an arrest report states.
Lara, who has been convicted of engaging in prostitution in Tulsa County, told police she was tired of being "pimped out."
She shot him in the back as he tried to run away, the arresting officer said.
Lara was sentenced Thursday for assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The victim refused to press charges in the assault, telling the judge in a letter that he believed he was hit by a ricochet and that Lara did not mean to injure him. He also notes that he now has sole custody of their son.
