The Oral Roberts University baseball team struggled on a cool night at Wichita State, as the Shockers one-hit the Golden Eagles on the way to an 8-0 win.
ORU got its only hit of the contest in the top of the fourth inning as Matt Brandy ripped a pitch down the third base line. Chris Williams was the only other base runner for the Golden Eagles as he was plunked by a pitch in the second inning.
Taking the loss for the Golden Eagles was Gavin Glanz. Glanz allowed three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Eight pitchers took the mound for ORU in the contest with Brad Fisher going to the longest of the relievers with 1.1 innings of work.
Glanz and Guillermo Trujillo each struck out a pair a Shockers to lead ORU.
The Shockers rattled off ten hits and seven runs through the first five innings of play, while the Golden Eagles used five pitchers over that stretch. WSU totaled 11 hits in the game.
The Shockers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third on three hits, a walk and a hit batter. They added a run in both the third and fourth innings and tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Tyler Baker led WSU with a double and a triple, while Garrett Bayliff led the Shockers with three hits and three runs batted in.
WSU's Garrett Brummett went five innings and struck out five batters for the victory.
The Golden Eagles (13-25) are back at home on Friday as they host Nicholls State in a three-game Southland Conference series at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm CT.
