Bringing a new meaning to the adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," a Green Country business announced a program Wednesday that will turn refuse into power.
The company is called American Environmental Landfill. It works to exceed state and national environmental waste standards, and its new program will do that in a unique way.
"The gas that decomposes, or that is generated from the decomposition of waste, is what's going to generate power for 4,500 homes a month," said General Manager Todd Green.
That gas being generated at its Sand Springs plant is methane.
AEL is part of American Waste Control, the company that processes all the recycling for Tulsa and surrounding areas.
