A Tulsa woman has been arrested after her 1-year-old was found with injuries consistent with child abuse, and a CT scan revealed he had a lacerated liver.
Police said 28-year-old Angelina Cicone's son first sustained injuries to his head, face, feet and torso in January. An investigation ensued and "a forensic pediatrician determined his injures were abusive and the child was returned home to a safety plan," an arrest and booking report says.
Court records show Cicone is currently serving a deferred sentence for manufacturing methamphetamine in 2011. A progress report for women in recovery, which was filed by Family and Children's services in Tulsa County District Court on March 6, referenced the January child abuse report.
"On 1-8-13, Angie's son was taken by DHS while they investigated allegations of abuse while he was in daycare. DHS dismissed [its] case and her son will be returned to her custody on or before March 5."
On April 2, the child was observed to have additional injuries to his head, similar to those in January. The next day, a forensic pediatrician examined him and found bruises on his face, abdomen, head and feet, prompting the CT scan, the report says.
Cicone, who reportedly said she was the sole caregiver during the time of the injuries, told police she didn't know how the baby got hurt, the arrest report says.
According to the women in recovery report, Cicone's older son in Missouri also has a DHS case.
Missouri Department of Corrections online records show Cicone was charged in Bates County with felony marijuana possession in 2011.
Cicone was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on two child abuse complaints and is being held in lieu of $200,000 bond.
