OHP Identifies Sapulpa Man Killed Crossing I-44

A Sapulpa man is dead after being hit by a truck on Interstate 44 Saturday night. Troopers released the name of the man Sunday.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Kevin Wayne Doyle, 43, was walking across the Interstate from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes when he was clipped by the mirror of a truck traveling 75 mph.

The deadly collision happened on I-44, just west of the State Highway 97 exit.

Troopers said Doyle was able to get past a vehicle in the outside lane, but the driver of the truck in the inside lane didn't see him until it was too late. That driver attempted to maneuver around the pedestrian, but his driver's side mirror hit him and killed him instantly.

Doyle was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The condition of the driver at the time of the crash was apparently normal, OHP said, and there was no evidence he was speeding. He was not injured in the wreck.
