Investigators said a father shot his 32-year-old son in a domestic dispute about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday near South 129th East Avenue and East 28th Place.
Dead is David Aaron Jason Knight, and police are questioning his father, David Perry Knight, 65.
Police said the son and his girlfriend were at his father's residence, but were asked to leave. When they didn't do as they were asked, a dispute escalated and ended in gunfire.
"Whether the son wasn't leaving fast enough, or for whatever reason, it ended up with the dad shooting the son one time in the chest," TPD Capt. Rick Helburg said.
After a 911 call was placed and police were on their way, the father began to administer CPR, according to police.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court records show David Perry Knight applied for an emergency protective order against his son on March 8. The request was granted, and a hearing was scheduled for March 21. Neither party showed to the scheduled court date, which nullified the emergency order.
On March 21, David Perry Knight "called in and stated he was ill and wanted this to [be] continued. Passed his message on to the judge," court records say.
