A natural gas well burn at 111th Street South and Oneta Road is drawing a crowd of residents, but it is a controlled burn, according to the Coweta Fire Department.

Gas is being burned off so Enogex, an OG&E natural gas company, can make repairs to a 24-inch line.

It is expected to take several hours.

News On 6 storm spotter Derek Masingale called in to report the flame shooting over 100 feet in the air Saturday morning at about 10 a.m.

"I live a mile away, and I heard it and saw the flames through the trees," Masingale said.

Cars are lining 111th Street to watch the flare top power lines in the area.

Masingale described the sound of the burn as "two fighter jets taking off at the same time."
