Green Country High School Band Called On To Be Pep Band For TU Rival

One of TU's basketball rivals calls a local high school band it's "good luck charm."

In 2010, UTEP hired Owasso's band as its pep band when the team played in Tulsa.

UTEP made a run at the championship that season, and called the band back for an encore performance.

"The rough thing in 2010 was we had to play at a game where our hometown team - Tulsa - was playing UTEP," said Owasso's Assistant Band Director Chris Harris. "It was really a conflict. We were really rooting for Tulsa and trying to do our job at the same time."

Hiring the kids from Owasso is apparently cheaper than UTEP bringing its own band all the way from El Paso.

The Owasso kids will be downtown at the BOK Center when UTEP's women's team tips off Wednesday.
