ABLE Will Come Knocking To Stop Underage Drinking In Oklahoma

Agents with the Oklahoma ABLE Commission reminded everyone Monday they are stepping up efforts over the next three months to combat underage drinking.

The Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission says in 2009 underage drinkers consumed 20.4 percent of all alcohol sold in Oklahoma.

ABLE agents said they will be going beyond licensed establishments, like bars, to knock on the doors of homeowners who host underage drinking parties over Spring Break and during the prom and graduation season to enforce the state's social host (Cody's) law.

Agent-In-Charge of the Tulsa ABLE office, Kent James, says the goal is to encourage anyone who knows about an underage drinking party to call their toll free number 866-894-3517.

James says thanks to Cody's law, anytime alcohol is furnished to a minor it is a felony no matter if it is a bar or at someone's home. He says if a social host case results in severe bodily injury or death it's also a felony.
