Almost 400 students at Watts High School celebrated its centennial by making at attempt at a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

They decided to all blow on wooden train whistles at the same time.

They didn't choose whistles arbitrarily. Watts was founded on the railroad, and its school mascot is even an engineer.

"The world record was at 250 people blowing on a wooden train whistle simultaneously for 15 seconds. We just had 395 blowing on wooden train whistles for 20 seconds," said Watts High School Principal Martin Bradford.

The school is sending photos to the Guinness people, and they hope to hear back in about six weeks.
