Four Tulsa players scored in double figures to give the Hurricane a 79-68 win over Memphis on Thursday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. This was TU's first win over the Tigers since the 2007-08 season.
TU moved to 12-15 on the season and 7-7 in Conference USA, while the Tigers fell to 16-12 overall and 7-7 in the league.
"Regardless of what people around us did, we knew we had to get this one," coach Matilda Mossman said. "In order for us to move up and for us to have a chance at one of the top four seeds, we knew we had to come in and take care of business. I am really proud of our effort, proud of how we played and the fact that we found a way to win. The thing I am most pleased with is how we shot the ball. If we shoot 49-percent we can win a lot of games."
Taleya Mayberry had a team-leading 17 points, six assists and three steals in 37 minutes of play. Kelsee Grovey scored 16 points, Tiffani Couisnard added 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds, and also had three steals, and Mariah Turner tallied 11 points and a team-high five steals.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, March 3rd against UAB. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
