RiverHawks Take Down Oral Roberts, 4-3

The Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Division I Oral Roberts 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the Indian Springs Country Club.

The RiverHawks improved to 4-1 on the season, while dropping the Golden Eagles to 1-4.

"This was a good win for us today," NSU coach Amanda Stone said. "I was proud of how our team competed and even more proud how we handled ourselves on the court. As a coach, it's nice to have players that come to play with class."

NSU took the bottom two doubles courts two win the first point of the seven-point match, and the two squads split singles competition.

Junior Martina Bruzikova and sophomore Barbora Jirickova kicked off proceedings with an 8-2 triumph over Brittany Smith and Natalia Dollar on the third doubles court.

The junior duo of Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine clinched the first point of the match for Northeastern State with an 8-6 win over Marizanne Bouwer and Rachel Scroggs on the second court.

ORU's Haley Martin and Tori Dollar defeated senior Ivana Belejova and freshman Kristina Savchenkov 8-6 on the top doubles court.

Mallem defeated Scroggs 6-2, 6-0 in singles action on court four, Bruzikova topped Natalia Dollar 6-0, 6-2 at the fifth position, and Jirickova gave the green and white the fourth and clinching point with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory over Smith on the sixth court.

ORU's three points came at the top three singles courts.

Martin defeated Belejova 6-4, 6-2 on the top court, Bouwer squeaked by Savchenkov 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at the second court and Tori Dollar beat Bellamine 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) at the third position.

Northeastern State will now move into MIAA action, as the squad will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., for a pair of weekend matches with Missouri Western State and Northwest Missouri State.
