A McAlester woman is dead after state troopers say she failed to yield from a stop sign while crossing U.S. Highway 69 in McAlester. A 5-year-old passenger in her car survived the wreck which took place just before 8 a.m. Monday in Pittsburg County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Sara Basquez, 24, failed to yield while crossing southbound Highway 69 from Frink Chambers Road. Her car was hit by a Cadillac driven by Kelli Spears, 54, of Hartshorne.

Basquez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from her Ford Focus. She was pronounced dead of massive injuries, the OHP trooper's collision report states.

A 5-year-old girl in the Ford was treated and released from a McAlester hospital. Spears was also treated and released from a McAlester hospital.

Troopers say Basquez was in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck.
