Thursday Morning Update

Some lingering rain will continue through the midday hours with highs nearing 60 this afternoon across the state.  Windy and warm conditions Friday will be followed by a significant cold front Saturday.  

The rain moved northward late last evening and into the northern portion of the state after lingering for most of the day across southern OK.  The main upper level system will be clearing the state by midday to early afternoon and the rain will quickly move north and east of the area this afternoon. Our temps will be nearing the upper 50s to near 60 today along with south winds near 10 to 15 mph.  Some partial clearing is possible later this afternoon with a few sun breaks across the state but we'll stick with mostly cloudy conditions through the evening.  

Our next upper level system is developing across the Pacific Northwest and will move eastward during the next 12 to 24 hours.  We'll be unseasonably windy and warm Friday ahead of this next system with highs nearing 70 along with south to southwest winds in the 15 to 30 mph range.   

As the main upper level trough nears the region, a cold front will rapidly move across the area Saturday morning bringing much colder air to the state Saturday afternoon and lasting through early next week.  The long wave trough aloft will stay west of the area this weekend while the surface boundary will be located to the southeast of our immediate area.  This may create a potential for some precipitation to develop behind the front ( post frontal) as a disturbance rotates around the base of the long wave trough to our west and slides across the region.  The models have hinted at some precipitation for the Saturday evening or early Sunday morning period near or southeast of the I-44 corridor.  Temperatures during this time period would more than likely below freezing and could allow for some wintry precip possibilities.  Our chances will remain somewhat low at this point, but residents should remain aware of this possibility.  As we draw closer to Saturday, the data should allow a higher level of confidence regarding the precip possibilities. 

The cold air will stick around early next week with morning lows in the lower 20s followed by highs in the lower to mid-30s Monday and Tuesday. Slightly warmer air will be possible Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 40s.   It's also worth mentioning that we could have another system nearing the area late next week. 

Yesterdays high in Tulsa was 55  recorded at 7:31pm.

The normal daily average high is 47 and the low is 27.

Our daily records include a high of  76 recorded on this date in 1990

and the low of -5  recorded in 1977.
