Taleya Mayberry, Tiffani Couisnard and Loren McDaniel all posted double figures to lead Tulsa to an 80-53 win over Utah Valley on Thursday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU moved to 1-5 on the season, while UVU fell to 1-6 overall.
Mayberry netted a career-high 32 points as she went 11-for-17 from the field, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc, and hit six of seven free throws. She also added six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Couisnard picked up her ninth career double-double and fourth of the year as she tied her career-best of 20 points and was one-shy of her record with 14 rebounds. She also recorded a team-leading six steals and two blocks.
McDaniel added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Hurricane.
TU had a 43-36 lead in rebounds, a 4-0 advantage in blocks and a 16-10 lead in steals. The Golden Hurricane shot 49-percent from the field, 29-percent from three-point range and 81-percent (17-21) from the charity stripe.
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a 22-2 lead and led by as many as 22 points (33-11) in the first half at the 8:28 mark, but the Wolverines went on an 18-4 run to cut the deficit to eight with just 2:27 left in the first frame. TU closed out the half with a 6-0 run to take a 43-29 advantage into the break. Tulsa went 17-for-32 from field for 53.1-percentage and hit all four free throw attempts in the first half.
In the second half, TU continued to inch further ahead and had a game-high 30-point lead with just 1:15 left in the contest.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, December 4th against Nebraska Omaha. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Omaha, Neb.
