Bartlesville Stresses Water Conservation Because Of Continuing Drought

The city of Bartlesville is asking residents to conserve water.

While it is not an emergency, city water director Mike Hall says the city wants to be pre-emptive as it prepares for the next few months. 

Hall says the months of December through February are usually dry months.

He says the level of Hulah Lake is just 1.3 feet above what it was in 2001, the last time the Bartlesville area experienced a major drought. From 2001 to 2002, Hall says the drought kept building, forcing the city to mandate water rationing because the level of Hulah Lake kept dropping.

If the area doesn't get a significant amount of rain between now and next spring, Hall says, Bartlesville will have to consider stronger measures as it did in late 2001 into early 2002. 

Hall says a water filter performance issue back in July has been resolved.
